Pyramid Power Circuit Training

Gary Linker, former Captain of England's soccer team and winner of the Golden Boot award in a World soccer championship, seen here 'powering-up' with Ken Miller in his gym on the Island of Eternal Spring - Tenerife. Gary is consider alongside the great Sir Bobby Charlton as England's finest sporting ambassador. Training here after he left Barcelona FC en route for Tottenham Hotspur FC

What some of the Champions had to say after training with Ken Miller, the originator of this system, at his super gymnasium in the Canary Islands...............

Gary Lineker

"I first heard about Ken's workout from my brother Wayne, who was managing our 'Lineker's Bar' in Playa de las Americas"." Ken Miller trained me after leaving Barcelona F C en route for Tottenham Hotspur F C, and after only a few workouts, I felt fitter. I shifted light weights, and performed a whole new range of abdominal exercises. My body felt really well-toned. He worked me like hell. "

Jim McDonnell

Jim former undefeated featherweight Champion of Europe defeated the great Barry McGuigan in Barry's last fight. At the time the death of Barry's beloved father was one of the factors that made him decide to call it a day - his fantastic career will long be remembered. Jim McDonnell on the other hand went on to put up a courageous performance against the legendary World Super Featherweight Champion at the time, the mighty African Azumah Nelson - only an eye injury in the 10th round stopped Jim causing quite an upset. Jim is now considered the best boxers' fitness and conditioning coach in Great Britain - he is a methods man who is never too proud to look at new ideas which is often the problem in boxing.

" I have known Ken for over 17 years, since he pioneered the first modern health and fitness club in Tenerife in 1983.

During my holiday workouts in his super gym, I discovered that nobody could power me up like Ken with his Pyramid Power and Boxing Speed Circuits. In fact, I later used them myself, with Ken's permission, on some of the guys I trained - Herbie Hide before he won the WBO world heavyweight title, and former European Heavyweight Champion Scott Welch before he defeated and retired Joe Bugner, who twice went the distance with Muhammad Ali."

This sytem of pyramid power training was devised by Ken Miller for Jimmy McDonnell, a superbly conditioned athlete, when he fought for the World title, as mentioned above.

Daniel and the Lions

Jim, is now one of the UK's top boxing trainers. He uses the power circuits regularly with his own stable of boxers. Anyone watching his charge Daniel (Don't call me Danny) Williams power his way to the British heavyweight title recently, has seen a true warrior of the ring. Daniel with only one arm, having dislocating his right arm three rounds earlier, unleashed the perfect left hook to KO Mark Potter who was ahead on points at the time. Daniel having now put his first notch on the Lonsdale Belt will be remembered for his other epic performance - he had previously, with only one week's notice, stepped into the ring and won the Commonwealth title. Methinks this guy, now a dual champion is a real jewel, and could be related to that other Daniel who tamed lions! Let us hope that dislocation proves not to be a hindrance to what looks like a great future.

To an opponent, the boxing ring may be the loneliest place on earth, but to the athlete who uses the Pyramid Power System, it is the ' arena of dreams ' just waiting for a new claim to be to registered.

What the MIND can conceive - the BODY can achieve. It is up to you to make it happen. By making the Pyramid Power System part of your workout programme, aspirations become realities.

The Mighty Mancunians

In recent times, Ken Miller has visited his pal, another top British BoxingTrainer, Brian Hughes at the famous Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club in Manchester, to try out his Pyramid Power system with former world champ Robin Reid, British and Intercontinental Champion Anthony Farnell, and top prospect Thomas McDonough.

Ken's father was a professional pugilist of the 1930's, from the great Collyhurst stable himself and was managed by the late Harry Fleming, who managed that great trio of champions Jock McAvoy, Johnny King and Jackie Brown - they boasted World, European, and British boxing champions. Ken is a great admirer of the pure artistry in Brian Hughes' coaching techniques - who uses the skills of the past to produce the champions of the future. The old traditional defensive skills and ringcraft are nurtured at the early stages in Brian's rising stars. Brian hates to see his young warriors getting into 'wars' - he knows they can handle the heat, but why prove it, the name of the game is to ' hit-without-being-hit', the sweet science of boxing?

Anthony Farnell has recently changed his trainer to another real Top Man also in the great city of Manchester called Billy Graham - we wish Arnie all the best, he is still maturing and the potential for more success is there. Billy is steering the fantastic talent  known as Ricky Hatton to a place in Boxing History. Heaven forbid, but it seems the only way this guy Hatton can be beaten is if he gets cuts … he is a throw-back to the days of those great Manchester fighters of the 30's.

The Fighting Irish

The Barcelona Olympics 1992 proved to be the best ever Olympics for the All Irish amateur team - incredibly, they won as many medals as the mighty USA in these Olympics. Ken Miller who designed the Pyramid Power System was at that time working in his Tenerife gym and was proud to be of service to them when they asked to use his facility shortly before the Olympics to acclimatise for the hot work ahead.

The most outstanding of the Irish team proved to be a tenacious, totally dedicated, perpetual motion fighter called Wayne McCullough who went on to become a World Champion - his fighting spirit typified the very best of his nation.

'For King and Country'

by Brian Hughes MBE
Brian has written this moving story describing the life of one of Britain's greatest ever boxers - the former
British and Empire Bantamweight Champion Johnny King.

Johnny (as mentioned above) was one of Collyhurst's "Three Cavaliers" - he joined the Royal Navy when still British Champion to fight for his country in World War 2 . One of the few survivors at the sinking of our massive battleship HMS Prince of Wales. The question remains "How good a champion would Johnny have been had WW 2 not intervened?" He had already come close to beating the reigning world champion Al Brown who during the fight used his extremely long arms when in trouble to negate the power of the Manchester fighter.
