Circuit Training with a Difference

The Pyramid Power System
Photo above: -Champions Galore. After Ken Miller built the
first Health and Fitness Club in the sunny South of Tenerife many champions from
all over the world came to use his facility. Here Ken is seen on the distance
pads with the Dark Destroyer -the 'Fighting Soldier' former World Super
Middleweight Champion Nigel Benn. Nigel started his pro career with 22 straight
KO victories. He served over 4 years in the British Army and proved to be the
sort of fighter you could never under estimate - in the boxing ring a moments
lack of respect, a blink at the wrong time and it was sweet dreams. The hardest
punching middleweight Britain ever produced.
The Pyramid Power Training System supplements your specialised
training…..There is no replacement for practising your skills on exercises such
as Nigel Benn demonstrates in the above photograph on the distance pads.
Tips and Advice
The Pyramid Power System is tough - so you have to remain focused. When you
commence training be positive and try to display the following characteristics
every time. Do not take your body for granted: -
Discipline
Determination
Dedication
Durability
If you are not on top form - or not able to do the essential
warm-ups and stretch downs take the day off! It is the ultimate in power
training; you are progressively taking your body to its new limit. You might
find yourself stranded in the 'lactic zone' - or injured, if you get sloppy with
your preparations. There are lots of tips in the manuscript regarding diet,
vitamins and fluid replacement. The emphasis is on thinking like a champ - not a
chump.
It is a high intensity programme of workouts, and you will have
to navigate the lactic zone initially, until your body responds fully, and you
reach the condition of a true champion - you have to 'suffer' to find perfection
that is life. Training at this level is serious business, and your body is 'it'
- the business! Be professional, when you enter the gym, imagine you have opened
the office, so start your ritual, do not be rushed.
Too many athletes poach on their youth - life will carry on after you have
won the championship, so follow my system to the letter, and even when your
retired people will look and admire you. Staying fit and looking good - your
body loves you for it!
Some people are naturally lithe, others have to work hard at it, to achieve
their maximum flexibility, but it is worth it. The 'art of movement' is the name
of the game, and by developing a smooth rhythm, and using the natural pivots of
the body you increase your power.
Notes: -
1. This routine demands Warm-up Exercises i.e. a full range of joint
mobilisation, and stretching of the fascia of the muscles to produce excellent
body shape. Power comes naturally in the rhythm of a well practised move -
sometimes your fast reflexes will surpass even you - but not quite as much as
the opposition.
On completion of any programme or circuit, time must be allowed for a
forceful warm and stretch-down routine whilst the body is hot.
2. The advice Pyramid Power Training Manual will illustrate, a progressive
strength programme, to help you get more out of those similar exercises executed
on the power circuits. These strength programmes are performed, in preparation
for the circuits, at a slower, more relaxed pace, to develop a perfect physique,
as well as strength, for the chosen sport.
3. You will see good results come quickly from the strength programmes, but
only when they are performed in conjunction with your Pyramid Power Circuits,
which is what they are designed for. The circuits will burn off any excess fat -
remember, with this system, every ounce of body-weight is functional. We are not
looking for big heavy muscles, the name of the game is explosive
power, and that means speed plus strength, not strength alone. Do
not become a victim of your own vanity. Use a mirror to perfect your technique
not to blow kisses at yourself.

Manchester United Football Club
The great former United star and currently assistant manager at Leeds United
Brian Kidd requested a copy of the Pyramid Power Training schedules in 1994 and
invited their author Ken Miller to visit The Cliff training ground in Salford to
discuss how to use them.
Ken, as a Mancunian, has been a United fan since he was knee high to a
grasshopper and considers his most treasured moment was when the late Sir Matt
Busby suprised him by appearing as if from nowhere in Tenerife and asking Ken
could he sit down with him at his table. Having just locked up the gym for the
night and retired to his favourite sea side restaurant in Los Cristianos, Ken
was absolutely gobsmacked - they spoke long together about the team that never
died because their memory lives on .....the Busby Babes. Phew! what talent -
what a privilege to have seen them play and what an honour to meet the great man
himself. Shortly afterwards Sir Matt passed on to his greater rewards but his
statue still stands at Old Trafford to remind us all of his wonderful presence
on this planet of ours.
